What is a SDO™ garment?
The Sensory Dynamic Orthosis (SDO™) is a made to measure lycra garment that provides dynamic compression designed to assist with the management of altered postural control and muscle tone. The firm fitting nature of the custom lycra garment provides increased proprioceptive feedback to the individual and the application of tailored reinforcement panels provides improved musculoskeletal stability and alignment.
Clinical observations and the evidence available shows that wearing an SDO® garment can lead to an improvement in positioning, posture and function for the individual through improved musculoskeletal alignment, postural stability and sensory feedback.
SDO™ is manufactured by a leading company in this field in the UK called Medigarments which has extensive experience. It consists of a 2-way stretch base polycotton Lycra fabric and 4-way stretch polyamide/elastane fabric reinforcement panels.
How does a SDO™ garment work?
An SDO™ garment utilizes reinforcement panels to influence biomechanical stability and alignment as well as utilizing dynamic compression to provide sensory and proprioceptive feedback.
